High school and career

Cole had been the basketball star throughout his junior and senior school years in Dunbar High School. He was friends with Daequan Cook, a fellow NBA player. They faced each other in the 2012 NBA finals. He was admitted to Walsh University through a football scholarship where the college basketball coach Gary Waters included him in his team. He won multiple games for the university throughout his college years.

He is the first player to win the title of Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in Horizon Leagues Men’s basketball history. He was also the finalist of the Wooden Award and Final Five for the Bob Cousy Award.

Professional Career

  • Miami Heat (2011–2015)

    Cole was with the Chicago Bulls in the NBA draft 2011, and then a vital part of the Minnesota Timberwolves which led him to Miami Heat.

    Cole performed exceptionally well during training practices with confidence and speed in a 21 point and 4 assist performance. He won the audience’s heart by scoring 15 points against the Boston Celtics in the fourth quarter.

    Cole scored an average of 6.8 points in the 2011–12 season, 1.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists on 39% shooting, and played with Mario Chalmers. He scored two 3-pointers in game 4 of the 2012 NBA finals. He scored his first championship after the Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 4–1.

    He played 80 games in 2012–13, including 4 starts, and averaged 5.6 points. While in 2013–14, he played all 82 games averaging 6.4 points and 3 assists per game.

    On October 24, 2014, he set his career-high score of 23 points against the Washington Wizards with a scoreboard of 107–95.

  • New Orleans Pelicans (2015–2016)

    Cole was traded to New Orleans Pelicans in a three-team trade involving Phoenix Suns on February 19, 2015. After two days, he faced his previous team Miami Heat. He scored 12 points in just 30 minutes of the game with 6 rebounds and 3 assists. They won the game by 105–91.

    He re-signed the agreement on September 17, 2015, and accepted a $3.03 million offer. Cole missed being a part of the NBA playoffs as a Pelican in the 2015–16 season.
