Born on January 9, 1989, Michael Paul Beasley Jr. is an American basketball player whose last game was for the Cangrejeros de Santurce of the Puerto Rican league Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). He played for the college basketball team of Kansas State University for one season before declaring for the 2008 NBA Draft. Beasley was the 2nd pick in the draft and was selected by the Miami Heat.

Beasley is often regarded as one of the best freshman college basketball players during the 2000s. Though ambidextrous, he usually prefers to shoot left-handed.

Early Life

Michael Beasley was born in Cheverly, Maryland, on January 9, 1989. In 2005, he moved from Montgomery County to Frederick with his mother, Fatima Smith, and his two brothers and two sisters, where he lived for one year.

High School Career

Beasley played for one of the most successful AAU youth teams in the U.S., the PG Jaguars, with whom he won multiple national championships alongside future stars Kevin Durant and Chris Braswell. Later, he also played AAU ball for the DC Assault Under-17 team.

He attended six high schools in total. As a senior in 2006–2007, Beasley averaged 28 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 4.5 blocks per game. In one game, he scored 64 points with 31 rebounds.

In 2006, he was a second-team Parade All-American and was also named to the U.S. Men’s U-18 team. Beasley ranked 5th in rebounds per game among 2006 all-tournament leaders. He won MVP honors in the 2007 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
